The Parish Choir
St. Nicholas Choir
Grades 2-6 – These older children rehearse on Thursday evenings from 5:00-6:00, and sing during the communion portion of the Sunday 10:00 service approximately once per month. They also sing at many of the special musical services, such as Choral Evensong.
Grades 7-12 - “Cantemus” is Latin for “Let Us Sing.” The youth members of our choir program work on much of the same music as the adult singers. They rehearse on Thursdays from 5:15-7:00 pm, and are welcome to remain for the conclusion of the adult rehearsal at 7:30. They sing at most Sunday 10:00 am services, as well as the special musical services.
St. John’s Choir
Adults – The adult section of the choir rehearses on Thursdays from 5:30-7:30 pm, and sings for the 10:00 am Sunday
Eucharist. Once each month, the choir also sings for a special musical service, often Choral Evensong, in the afternoon. Services on the major Holy
Days of the church, such as Christmas Eve, Holy Week, and Easter Day, also involve the musical leadership of the choir. Chorister training for adults is arranged through the St. John’s Choir School
or on an individual basis at convenient times.
St. John’s Choir School
The Choir School is a training and educational component of the church’s music ministry. It is open to any children or youth (grades 2-12), whether or not they are participating in the St. Nicholas or Cantemus Choirs. The Choir School meets on Tuesday afternoons from 4:30-5:15, and provides a free education in music theory, singing technique, liturgy, and spiritual life. Participants in the Choir School are expected to sing in a Tuesday 5:15 pm service of Taizé (French chant) music once each month, as well as the Sunday monthly Evensong. Members of the Choir School progress through a series of training levels based on the Royal School of Church Music, and they are recognized with various ribbons and medals that they wear for Choral Evensongs.
St. John's Choir School Camp
Each August, a weeklong day camp is held at the church, featuring crafts, activities, fun, worship and singing in historic St. John’s Church. The camp is open to any young people, grades 2-12, whether or not they are a part of the program during the academic year. For more information, contact the church office.
